My Soul Delighteth
MY SOUL DELIGHTETH:
This song comes from multiple places in Second Nephi. 2 Nephi 4:15-16 "For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children. Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard." and 2 Nephi 25:4 "wherefore I shall prophesy according to the plainness which hath been with me from the time that I came out from Jerusalem with my father; for behold, my soul delighteth in plainness unto my people, that they may learn."
I also pulled from Nephi's lament in 2 Nephi 4:17-35 and 2 Nephi 25:26 "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." But ultimately, this song speaks to Nephi's final testimony in 2 Nephi 33:4-14.
There is so much good stuff to pull from Nephi and I could've created a song for each one of these scriptures, but I realized that I'd never finish this project if I used everything in the Book of Mormon, so I summed it up for you in this song. Quite frankly this has become one of my most favorite songs from this whole project. It is a reminder that studying the holy words of God can be a joyful experience. Likewise, it is a reminder to read and study the scriptures (whether that be the Bible or otherwise).
In this song, I took a moment to summarize Nephi's life to show that he had experience. I used Nephi's lament to show that he was human and relatable. And I infused these things with Nephi's final testimony at the end of his life. I love how, even though I used the same music prompt to create this song as the other Nephi songs, I just came out more joyful. This song is about Nephi, but it is really about all of us and how God lifts us up when we turn to Him.
