THE GOD WHO MAKES A WAY:

This song comes from 1 Nephi 17 when Nephi begins building a ship. His brothers, Laman and Lemuel, come to make fun of him. This is Nephi's response to Laman and Lemuel. I love this song because it is Nephi's typical response. He talks about the exodus of the Israelite people and how God freed them and performed many wonders among them throughout his story.

I think Nephi saw himself as a kind of Moses. He truly believed that he could do anything if God commanded. He even told Laman and Lemuel that if God told him to command the waters to be dry land, he could do so and it would be dry land. Thus is the faith of Nephi.

Throughout his writings, Nephi refers to the brazen serpent of Moses that healed the Israelites from snake bites. He talks about the parting of the waters and many other miracles performed by God through the hands of Moses. He was a man who took strength and courage from the stories he grew up with and he believed it was all possible.

What I like about this song is that it is a reminder of the power and wonder of God. We have power to do all things in Christ as long as we lean into His will. It is a reminder of all the miracles that have been performed throughout the ages of the world. God literally created the earth and everything on it. And though we don't know what process he used, beyond the 7 days of creation, he has shown forth his power in many mighty ways. David defeated Goliath. Peter walked on water. Moses parted the waters. Countless people have been healed and even raised from the dead. Our god is a god of miracles and He makes a way for his children.
