The Waters are Calling

THE WATERS ARE CALLING:

This song comes from Mosiah 18. This is Alma's speech at the Waters of Mormon. I love this speech. There is a reason why it is often used when teaching about baptism and the covenants of this ordinance. He lays it all out beautifully, so I had to capture this one.

Alma was the only priest of Noah who believed Abinadi. He even stood up for him in court, but was chased out. He went into hiding and wrote down all the words of Abinadi, then he began teaching the people. Eventually, he drew a crowd that caught the king's attention. Alma and his followers were chased into the wilderness where they started a new city of their own.

The chapter states that he taught in secret, so I wanted something that sounded secret. I decided that since Alma was deeply influenced by Abinadi that he would have a similar speak-sing style. But I wanted something completely different. I pictured Alma in a secret jazz club quoting poetry to the sound of muted jazz music playing in the background. This song was one of the hardest to get right. I had to create many versions and update my instructions many times. And this turned out to be one of my favorite songs to listen to.
